Many Sikhs understand our institutions are corrupt SGPC and Akal Takht. Seems the panth is apathetic at this point. Reform isn't really on the agenda. BTW What Books are good to understand the corruption in institutions such as Akali Takht? I saw on your Goodreads that you gave a good rating to Harjindra Dilgeer's book. Does he have other books on this issue? I distinctly remember you used the phrase "erudite scholar" to describe him, but it's no longer there on the review now.
How did you get the goodreads? Not sure what happened with the erudite part but other than Dilgeer, no one else seems to have covered the history of the corruption in such detail. The problem is, and we will put it openly, that when things seemed to be getting better Ranjit Singh (Narakdhari assassin) was selected as Jathedar. Despite his effectiveness, he was also prone to unnecessary saber-rattling. Inderjit Singh Jaijee in 'Politics of Genocide' notes that many Sikhs were concerned that after 13-14 years in jail, Ranjit Singh was made Jathedar with Indian acquiescence just to control the Badals and not undo their damage. There were incidents where it was seen he went easy on Tohra despite Tohra openly flaunting Akal Takhat Hukamnamahs. That myopia effectively destroyed the entire accountability framework Sikhs had. Now of course the common Sikh will get emotional if this is openly voiced "but he slew a killer of the Sikhs" obviously but that is no sure guarantee he is not easy to manipulate either.
