Ye this is interesting post. To add I think it is clear that Guru Nanak's distinction is very important, profound and nuanced, what makes it interesting he doesnt close the door on the One being personal but the away he keeps it open is even more interesting.

One of the Naam of ੴ is "ocean of virtues". I think the mechanism of Ardaas Guru Nanak is getting at is something is something like if you genuinely do an ardaas up on virtues/wisdom/Naam you have derived from ੴ and genuinely mean it like the Guru does, your Ardaas will be answered. I mean who else are you talking to? and who else can answer? if you had the answer would you be in this situation? Where else can the source of the answer come from if not same the Oneness of all and this Hukam?

I do think you was a bit hasty dismissing Bhagat Dhanna ji's bani, it is included for a reason in SGGS. Ultimately their is nothing wrong with asking the Lord of the Universe for your needs. It is only problem when u expect the inevitable hukam to change and you are going against it like in the experiment.
